Tis the season for love!
Yes, it’s called Valentione’s, not Valentine’s. Every year, we see Final Fantasy XIV celebrate Valentine’s Day with Valentione’s Day, and 2023 is no exception to that tradition. You can take part in special in-game activities catered towards the theme of love. You’ll earn different items and rewards for your efforts if you do. And should this be your umpteenth Valentione’s Day, you’ll know that the upcoming event brings new gear to the MMO and the exclusive “eat chocolate” emote.
Let’s look at what we can expect from the seasonal event in FFXIV this February and how you can complete the quests to earn Valentine-themed rewards that are not available in the FFXIV store.
Suited for Affection
A new event quest will be available for players in FFXIV when Valentione’s Day launches, and it’s called “Suited for Affection.” But before doing that, you’ll need to complete the “It’s Probably Pirates” quest in Old Gridania (X:10.2 Y:9.4). Once you do, ensure that the character in your FFXIV account is level 15 is the level required if you want to proceed.
Once you’ve got the prerequisites, talk to Lisette de Valentione at Old Gridinia; she’s located in the same spot where you did the “It’s Probably Pirates” quest. The process to complete “Suited for Affection” is relatively easy—you just have to talk to Emilie and have her accompany you. Then, you’ll have to speak with the Gridanian resident while accompanying Emilie three times until, finally, you can interact with Emilie. That’s it—that’s literally what you only have to do to complete the quest.
What Are the Rewards?
When you finish the “Suited for Affection” quest, you’ll get varying sorts of rewards depending on the gender of your in-game character. You’ll receive the Frilled Emmisary’s Attire Coffer. And if you have a male character, you’ll obtain the Vester Emmisary’s Attire Coffer.
The Frilled Emmisary’s Attire Coffer contains a Valentione Emmisary dress hat, culottes, ruffled dress, and dress boots. Meanwhile, the Vester Emmisary’s Attire Coffer consists of a Valentione Emmisary hat, bottoms, jacket, and boots.
Besides having cosmetics for your character, you’ll also get the famous Eat Chocolate emote and the Valentione’s Heart Deck, which you can use to glam up your house. If you want to take those cute group photos you’ve seen as of late with your friends, you can get the Prismatic Heart pose! The magicked prisms create illusions by using the myriad of shades it weaves; with it, you and another player can produce the left and right sides of the heart. Group Pose shots aren’t new in Final Fantasy XIV, but if you want to make it look more lovey-dovey with your special someone, the Prismatic Heart is a great way to capture that essence.
Can the Valentione’s Day Be Access By Free Trial Members?
Of course! Since the level threshold to do the “Suited for Affection” quest is low, everyone can receive Valentione-themed rewards, including players that only use FFXIV’s free trial. In 2022, Square Enix only had a 30-day free trial available for players. Once those 30 days were up, you had to buy the game and its subscription if you wanted to progress further. Thankfully, this is no longer the case now. The current version of the free trial now allows players to play for free until their in-game character reaches level 60. What’s more, there’s no restriction on playtime anymore, so you don’t have to rush when it comes to doing everything in Eorzea.
FFXIV’s free trial lets you play the MMO for over a year if you like to take your sweet time, and it’s a great way just to relax and do the stuff you have to do before you commit to a subscription. Purchasing the expansions and a subscription is excellent if you’ve already finished Heavensward, but worrying about a clock that “eats money” constantly ticking over your head isn’t a nice feeling. Unless you have friends with an active subscription and want to join a guild right away, it’s way better just to play the free trial first.
When Will Valentione’s Day Start?
The event will run from February 1 to February 15. Since the quest is so short, you should have no trouble completing it as long as you get it done before the last day. Valentione’s Day is a great way to get cosmetic items without spending any FFXIV Gil, so take advantage of it.
