    Understanding lower back pain

Low back pain can be caused by various ailments, accidents, or diseases, the most common of which is an injury to the back muscles or tendons. The intensity of pain can range from minor to severe. In certain circumstances, discomfort makes walking, sleeping, working, or doing daily tasks challenging or impossible.

Lower back discomfort usually improves with pain medications, rest, and physical therapy (PT). Hands-on therapies (such as osteopathic or chiropractic manipulation) and cortisone injections can aid with pain relief and recovery. Some back injuries and diseases necessitate surgical intervention.

    Is lower back pain common?

Four out of every five people will sometimes have lower back discomfort. It is one of the most prevalent reasons individuals seek medical attention. Some people are predisposed to lower back discomfort more than others. Lower back pain risk factors include:

    • Weight

People who are overweight or obese are more prone to suffer from back discomfort. Excess weight places strain on joints and disks.

    • Age

Back discomfort is more common in those over the age of 30. Disks (the soft, rubbery tissue that cushions the spine’s bones) deteriorate with age. Pain and stiffness might occur as the disks deteriorate and wear out.

    • Occupation and lifestyle

Heavy lifting and bending jobs and hobbies might raise the risk of a back injury wotpost.

    • Overall health

Weak abdominal muscles cannot support the spine, resulting in back strains and sprains. People who smoke, drink excessively, or have a sedentary lifestyle are more likely to suffer from back discomfort.

    • Disease

People with a family history of osteoarthritis, certain forms of cancer, and other diseases are more likely to suffer from low back discomfort.

    • Structural issues

Conditions that alter spine alignment, such as scoliosis, can cause severe back discomfort.

    • Mental health

Depression and anxiety can cause back discomfort.

Lower back pain symptoms might arise abruptly or gradually. Pain can arise from a specific event, such as bending to pick something up. Sometimes you do not know what triggered the agony. If you have experienced sudden pain in your back or continue to experience it regularly, it is very important to consult a healthcare professional as soon as possible.
