Some Tips to Avoid Gum Disease in Waterford

    JamesBy JamesAugust 23, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

One of the leading causes of the drastic increase in tooth loss among Americans is gum disease. However, there is nothing to worry about, as it is still manageable and treatable. In this blog, we will look at some of the things you can do to ensure that the chances of gum disease are lessened. If you want to discuss your particular case, visit Dr. Taylor’s Family Dental Center today to book an appointment.

    Maintain good oral hygiene:

One of the most important things you have to do on a regular basis is to brush your teeth twice a day, preferably once in the morning and again before you go to bed. You should not skip brushing at all costs, as it can lead to gum diseases due to germs buildup and cavities.

Use proper technique and get tongue scraper:

It is also vital that you use the right brushing technique to brush your teeth, as suggested by the American Dental Association. Always go for a soft-bristled brush. Lastly, do not forget to clean your tongue as well, as it is a potential breeding ground for germs that cause diseases. To do this, you can get a tongue scraper and include it in your daily brushing routine.

    Get mouthwash and gum stimulators:

Another thing you can do is get mouthwash so that you can cleanse any dislodged food particles in your teeth even after brushing your teeth. In addition, get a gum stimulator, preferably with a rubber tip, to promote the circulation of the gums and remove any particles from the gum line.

    Do not smoke:

Smoking can be very bad for your gum circulation and increase the chances of infection. Smoking does no good and will only lead to oral health issues at some point in your life.

    Consider taking Vitamins:

Vitamins like D, C, and calcium can do a lot for your gum health. In addition to that, try taking antioxidant-rich foods in your diet, as they are very good at controlling inflammation and maintaining a good pH balance to reduce plaque.

    Final thoughts:

Lastly, try avoiding sugary snacks as they foster the growth of bacteria in your mouth. Avoid caramel or any sticky food that can lead to residue in your mouth. Also, make sure you floss once daily before you go to bed to ensure that there is no debris stuck between your teeth.
