Remedies for Low Blood Pressure in Women During Pregnancy

    JamesBy JamesJuly 19, 2023No Comments3 Mins Read

There are various physiological and hormonal changes in a woman during pregnancy. These physiological changes can affect the body, like gestational diabetes and low blood pressure. Low blood pressure or hypotension is generally common for pregnant women, and it can be solved with simple lifestyle and dietary changes.

However, if the blood pressure is low for a longer period, it will cause weakness in you and also affect your baby, so you should consult doctors for its treatment. If you live in Silver Spring and want the best doctor in your pregnancy journey, you can visit medical centers to understand the medical process. You can consult some specialist doctors like Dr. Nicole DeQuattro Silver Spring for better guidance.

What are the causes of Low Blood Pressure during Pregnancy?

The normal blood pressure ranges at 120/80 mm Hg. But when it reduces to around 90/60 mm Hg, it creates problems for the person. It can cause weakness, low energy, and sedentary behavior.

During pregnancy, if there is low blood pressure, it can be due to dilation of blood vessels. There are other causes, like the growing of a fetus demands more energy for cell division, making you feel less energetic. Another important reason for low blood pressure in pregnancy is that some women reduce their intake of food due to vomiting and other problems, and therefore when the diet decreases, your blood pressure also decreases.

Remedies for Low Blood Pressure During Pregnancy

The first and foremost method is to take medication if it is during pregnancy. In general low blood pressure can be handled with remedies, but when it is a matter of your baby, you should first consult your doctor. However, you can also follow some of the remedies:

    • Balanced diet: Pregnancy is an important period, and in this, you have to maintain a balanced diet with all proteins, vitamins, vegetables, and fruits.
    • Keep yourself hydrated: You should drink water at intervals so that you are hydrated. Along with this, you can also try ginger water to be safe from nausea.
    • Adequate rest: It is important to have adequate rest during pregnancy and adhere to it. Rest will provide more energy to your body and help you tackle your low blood pressure.
    • Avoid long showers: During pregnancy, you should avoid taking showers for a long time or sitting inside the bathtub for a long period. It is because it can lead to a further decrease in blood pressure.
