There’s nothing I like more than heading down to the range and spending the day firing off a few hundred handgun shots to get my eye in, so when I was given 500 rounds of Sellier & Bellot 9mm to use, I jumped at the chance. And that’s what this blog is about as I let you know what I thought of them in my humble, yet experienced opinion.
A Bit About Sellier & Bellot
I did a little digging around on the company and found that they are a manufacturer with quite some heritage. Founded back in August of 1825 by Louis Sellier in the former republic of Czechoslovakia, the company got it’s full name when fellow countryman Jean Maria Bellot joined him in his venture.
The Sellier & Bellot 9mm ammo you see for sale today has been created by a company that was once one of the largest percussion cap manufacturers in the world, making 156 million of them in 1837 alone.
What they make today – other than their 9mm ammo – is a wide range of products, to include some awesome high-grade hunting rounds, so they’re a firm with quite some lineage and standing. So, this leads us to the question – how did I find the S&B rounds I was given?
The Maintenance Coefficient
The first thing I have to say about Sellier & Bellot 9mm rounds is that they worked really smoothly and they’re super-clean. This means that you can fire away without worrying too much about things getting gummed up with dirt, carbon and other grime.
Let’s be honest, cleaning your handgun or rifle is the least fun part of the whole process, so being spared much of the hassle is a real selling point.
Impressive Firing Performance
I fired every single one of those 500 rounds and didn’t have a single stoppage, so they’re none too shabby when it comes to reliability. No light trigger strikes, no jams, nothing.
They’re nice and accurate too, with decent, tight groupings – and I’m not even that good a shot.
Great Value For Money
One of its biggest features though is its value for money, as a box of 500 rounds will only set you back around $10. That equates to around 20 cents a round, which is very reasonable for quality like this, particularly as they can be used with a variety of different platforms like AR9s as well as handguns.
This low cost means that you can fire away with impunity down at the range and their robust design even allows for reloading for those wanting to get even greater value for money.
Sellier & Bellot 9mm Ammo Gets My Vote
So, after an enjoyable time firing every single one of those 500 rounds, I have to say that they’re a great choice for not just self defense, but also plinking and even hunting. Offering good value for money, high accuracy and a nice, clean action, they absolutely get my vote.
Sure, there are many different options out there to choose from and there are some brands out that are every bit as good as what’s on offer from these Sellier & Bellot rounds, but the cost effective nature of S&B rounds propels them to the top of the list in my book, as you’re getting quality for an economical price.
